Health Coverage Plans

If you haven’t enrolled for any health coverage plan for 2021 then don’t worry! In this article, I have provided a complete guideline on how to choose an insurance plan for this year. Even if you’re in search of a method to make changes for your existing healthcare insurance plan then you’re at the right place.

In the last year, we have all suffered from a critical healthcare crisis. Therefore, everybody is looking up to the healthcare reforms that can give us a light of hope in these conditions. So if you were wondering about what is coming up in the healthcare reforms then you were certainly not alone.

Let’s take a look at how you can find out whether you can apply for a health coverage plan or make changes to your existing plan.

1. For the ACA (Affordable Care Act) Plan:

Fortunately, ACA has not changed or been replaced and the lawsuit hasn’t impacted the enrollments of 2020. Therefore, you don’t need to rush to enroll again in the 2021 plan for ACA.

Although, we are familiar with the fact that the Supreme court has been threatening ACA since 2018 due to the case of California v. Texas. Although, plaintiffs gave a rise to this case in 2019 and again in 2020. However, we have also observed that nothing has changed about ACA during the appealing process.

Many legal experts have put forward an idea that the Supreme Court would declare that the mandate, who didn’t pay the tax/penalty. It would be severable from the rest of the ACA. Hence, there’ll also be no change in the rule for 2021 as well.

Although, the enrollment for the 2021 plan for ACA was open until 15 Dec 2020. However, if you haven’t enrolled for this plan yet then you should opt for the Special Enrollment Period.

In order to qualify for the Special Enrollment Period, you should provide complete information to the officials. The information should contain some particular life events that’ll help you to become eligible & apply after the due date.

You can check out the official website of healthcare.gov and you have to just fill out the form. Answer to the questions asked in the form and you can find out whether you qualify for the Special Enrollment Period in your state now.

2. Medicaid/CHIP:

You are not bound to any deadlines for Medicare & CHIP enrolment periods. Because anyone can apply for these programs at any time of the year. It is not difficult to qualify for any of these programs. Even if you don’t qualify for low income, you should apply for this coverage plan.

Because there are also states’ plans for children, pregnant women, moms and people with disabilities. Since, Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP don’t have an open Enrollment Period_ so there are no time limits for the application of these programs.

You can apply for Medicaid and CHIP in the 2 following ways;

1. With Health Insurance Marketplace®:

You can enroll for Medicaid and CHIP through the  Health Insurance Marketplace® from the official website of the HHS. You have to just fill out a simple online application through the Health Insurance Marketplace®.

If you find out that anyone in your house qualifies for Medicaid/ CHIP then you’ll get information from your state agency. They’ll provide you complete details about the enrollment.

When you visit their website to apply for the program then you’ll also find out the criteria of qualification. Majorly, it depends upon your income. You’ll also find out that these plans would be more affordable than your imagination.

2. Through Your State Medicaid Agency:

You have to just simply submit your application form through your state’s Medicaid Agency. But first, you have to verify whether they are providing these services in your state. If this option would be available in your state then you can qualify for Medicaid or CHIP health coverage plan.

Connecticare:

Although, in most of the states_ the health coverage plan started on Nov 1, 2020, and ended on December 15, 2020. But Connecticare has extended its deadline for the state of Connecticut in the United States. Now beneficiaries can apply for the health coverage plan till the 15th of January, 2021.  Although, the coverage will become effective as of February 1, 2020.

Connecticare also offers plans under the state’s health insurance marketplace i.e. Access Health CT Plans. With this plan, beneficiaries can get medical care from any doctor in Connecticut. This plan waives the deductibles of patients and it only features low co-pays.

However, it only features very limited co-pays for in-network doctors. That’s why I think that it’s not the “best” option to enroll in this program. Because it features co-pays of very limited in-network doctors for office visits, urgent care and generic drug prescriptions.

Although, they have another plan named as “SOLO plan”. It is also included under the officials of the state’s health insurance plan. It is more beneficial than the previous plan because it covers a wide network of doctors and hospitals in the State of Connecticut.
